Each year, Vogue selects a charitable organization that strives to make a positive impact on the community as its beneficiary. This year, we are raising awareness and donating proceeds towards the Kingston Youth Shelter.
The Kingston Youth Shelter provides emergency aid to young adults between the ages of 16 to 24 within the Kingston community. As university students and young adults ourselves, it is easy to empathize with susceptible youth. The shelter offers a multitude of services, including counselling, "Life Skills" training sessions, and basic necessities for individuals in need. Since 1999, over 16000 warm nights have been provided to homeless youth in a drug and alcohol free environment.
As with all programs, the shelter relies on donations of supplies and on financial support from the community. With the funds raised from this year's Vogue Charity Fashion Show, it is our hope to improve the facilities of the Kingston Youth Shelter and continue their invaluable services to the youth of Kingston.
So can we really make a difference? If so, by how much? Over the past three years, Vogue has raised over $49,000 for local charities:
- 2005: $9,500 for Extend-A-Family Kingston
- 2006: $16,500 for P.R.O. (Positive Recreation Opportunities) Kids Kingston
- 2007: $23,000 for Kingston General Hospital (KGH) Child Life Paediatric ward
Evidently, Vogue has become increasingly popular, and our ambitions have paralled our growth. With your help, Vogue is hoping to raise $30,000 for the Kingston Youth Shelter for the 2007-2008 year.
