QFA Recruitment Frequently Asked Questions

Who are we?
For the long answer, read here. In fewer words, we are a group of trained volunteers who provide advanced first response and first aid to the Queen's University community.

Why join us?
Among many other reasons, we are all on QFA to serve our fellow students and to improve and practice our first aid skills. In the process we've made many lasting friendships. Added bonuses to being a QFA member include fun social events, wearing spiffy uniforms, and receiving advanced first aid training.

What is the time commitment?
Each member is expected to cover at least six (6) hours of duty per week, and attend monthly meetings and training sessions throughout the academic year.

What do I need to join?
We ask that applicants have current Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C" qualification, or the equivalent. Any training you might have above the minimum requirements can only help. Past experience is an asset, though not a requirement. Applicants must also be at least 18 years of age as of March 25th.

What are we looking for?
Each applicant pool from each recruitment is different. for that reason, we do not have a pre-determined quota for recruitment. We accept members purely based on the applicant's skill, experience and persona. We would like to accept experienced first aiders, but we are most importantly seeking students who are self-motivated and show potential in our team environment.

What is the application process?
The Queen's First Aid recruitment process has three components: an application, an interview, and a practical examination. Twice a year we accept applications from interested students, either submitted online or in paper format. Of these, some are offered personal interviews, and then we examine selected applicants' practical skills. Final selection will be determined by interview and practical results.

So, what are the past statistics?
Generally, we receive between 100-200 applications in each recruitment session. Of these, around 50 applicants will be offered an interview and about 50% of them will be invited to the practical examination for further consideration.
