Queen's Chinese Catholic Community (QCCC) is composed of a group of Chinese students from Queen's University [under Newman House of St.
Thomas More Parish: The Roman Catholic Mission]. The essence of this community is to facilitate personal sharing, caring, loving, and
spiritual growth among our brothers and sisters. We learn, support, and care for each other on the path of life during the years at Queen’s.
We play an important role in our local parish at Queen's. We often provide assistant to services like Eucharistic ministry, hospitality,
choir, and liturgy readings during mass. Structure: Our group currently comprises of some Catholics and some non-Catholics who are interested in learning Catholic Church. Due to the increased number of members, started from last year, every member is involved in one of the three Families, Faith, Hope and Love Family. Activities: We have a cell meeting every Friday for personal sharing in which family members can express their own happiness and sadness with others in the same family; bible sharing that we can learn more from God; and singing some beautiful Catholic songs. Everyone feels warm, peaceful, comfortable and relaxed during and after the cell. A weekly bible study session is also held for those who want to learn deeply about bible and Catholic Church. Besides spiritual activities, we also organize activities like hot-pot dinner, reading-week trips and hospital visits. Last February, we had a three-day Montreal trip during the reading week. Besides shopping crazily, we went to St. Joseph Church and Notre Dame Bascilica. Everyone got a good rest from the busy school works. Other activities: Moreover, we involve in volunteer works that serve Kingston community such as Soup Kitchen located in Anglican Church located in Queen's Street. More is coming this year! Communication with Other Catholic Communities: Moreover, we keep close contact with other local Catholic communities such as Toronto, Waterloo, London, Ottawa, and Montreal etc. During the Montreal trip, we had a joint cell with Montreal Chinese Catholic communities. At that meeting, we shared not only our faith in God, but also the problems we face in organizing a Catholic group in university. Besides, each year many of our members go to an annual retreat called Eastern Canada Chinese Catholic Living Camp (ECCCLC) in which all young Chinese Catholics in Eastern Canada unite together for reflections and spiritual growth through talks, group sharing, prayers, and games. In addition, we also support the spread of Chinese Catholic Popular Music. Some of our members are involved in producing the music, composers, lyrics, musicians as well as producers. In 1996, the CD "The Way"©; in 1998, "The Way 2"©; in 1999 "Come Back to Me" and in 2000, Voices of the Heart" have been released and were being sold in the Chinese Catholic Church around the world. |
