Who
are Camp Outlook staff? Camp Outlook staff are men, women, students, teachers,
bus drivers, firefighters, dog owners, and the list goes on. Really, the
only description I can give of Outlook staff are adults who have a compassionate
soul, a desire to volunteer, and time and energy to give. We |
|
welcome
all ages, all sexes, sexual orientations, and cultural backgrounds.
No previous camping experience is necessary, though definitely an
asset.
If
you’ve the inclination to volunteer your time on weekends during
the winter, or June to August (inclusive) for the summer season,
Camp Outlook will cover your first aid training and provide a thorough
staff training. You will learn about anger management, team-work,
and also how to tie a bowline, and stern a canoe. Outlook is only
an out-tripping camp.
In
the winter, we operate out of our office at Queen’s University.
In the summer, our staff live together in the
|
|
“Outlook House”
right here in Kingston. We operate out of this location instead of having
a typical camp setting.
The experience
of being an Outlook staff is incredible. It demands interactions with
fellow staff, teenage campers, and yourself. In the same way that the
nature of wilderness tripping provides physical challenges, Outlook trips
also foster a unique environment for personal growth.

In
a word, Camp Outlook staff can be described as “awesome,” as suggested
by a former camper. Not only are they adventurers with amazing stories
to tell, but they are the most caring, trustworthy people one could
ever hope to meet. One of the most memorable staff members was a
certain female individual. When asked why she was so memorable,
the camper replied with enthusiasm that she was just a very special
person who was simply “always out there for the campers...putting
them before herself.” Simply incredible.
